Our E-Mail List

We now have an E-mail address list, and information goes out periodically to all of those on the list. People from other classes and other Orangeburg schools have also asked to join. All you need to do is complete this form and ask to be put on the list. You can also be taken off at any time. And if you want to have information sent to you but you don’t want other people to have your E-mail address, that’s fine, too. We will keep all information confidential if you request.

Once on the e-mail list:

If your e-mail address changes, please let us know and provide your name, old address and new address. Be sure that our address is on your list of accepted addresses so that our e-mail to you will not be considered spam and therefore will not be delivered. This has become a problem since so many people now have spam protection. Send us any news about yourself, a former classmate, a former teacher or Orangeburg. Please be sure to indicate if it is acceptable to pass on the information that you provide.

Dear OHS Alumni,

I want to let you know about the new and improved Orangeburg list. Since moving the list to Yahoo Groups for hosting, there have been some very nice enhancements to the basic listserv.

For those of you unfamiliar with listservs, let me briefly explain . . . Basically, a listserv allows any piece of email addressed to the list to be sent automatically to each of the list members. Members receive late-breaking class news or discussion direct from the mailing list server as soon as it is posted.  You don't need to do anything but check your email box. If there is something new, it will be in your box.

Now let me tell you what else we have in addition to the listserv. There is now a website on Yahoo that has an archive of every message sent out through the listserv. There is a private chat room, a member directory so you can know those on the list, a place to put our pictures and other files.

There are two different memberships - one as a basic listserv subscription, and the other is the whole package - listserv and/or web access.

The list does not substitute for Web pages, newsletters, or regular email. It is simply another mode to help us "stay in touch." The list is private and only for OHS folks. We have no plans to filter messages from members, which means you can use it to discuss anything of interest to OHS alumni. (Of course, it’s gotta be legal and you should exercise good taste.) It is for ALL YEARS. It will be OUR LIST.

We do not have an open membership. In other words, you must be approved to become a member. To speed up the process regardless of which option below that you prefer, fill out this form, and then we will process it.  If you send in this form, you can just wait for a reply and then decide which option below you prefer.

To Subscribe for Listserv (Email) Only – No Web Access

Briefly (very), you can subscribe to this list in mail mode by sending a message to OHS_Indians-subscribe@yahoogroups.com that contains the word subscribe in the subject line and nothing else. (You can post and read email but remember that you won’t have anything else with this type of membership.)

To Get the Whole Deal – Email Plus All the Other Good Stuff

First of all, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OHS_Indians/ where you will see two options. On the right-hand side of the screen, you can log into Yahoo and add OHS_Indians IF you already have a Yahoo user name and password.

If you do not have the user name and password from Yahoo, look on the left-hand side where it says, “Sign up now to enjoy Yahoo! Groups”. On the next screen, you will provide some required information to Yahoo. When you get finished here, Yahoo will send you a verification number at your email address and an address to go to enter it. When you get done, you will be registered.

After getting set up for the OHS_Indians group, use http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OHS_Indians/  as your link to return anytime.

This listserv was established by Heyward Bozard, Class of 1969, now deceased.

If You Have Trouble or Need More Information

If anyone has a question about the OHS list or if you have trouble subscribing, send me a private email. Oh, by the way, the list is absolutely free. Please forward this to everyone you know who is an OHS graduate.

Regards,

Ken Guin (OHS Class of 1962)
